Healing Through Reconciliation: In Conversation with Chief Leanne Joe

March 29 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Chief Leanne Joe, Squamish Nation

Sxwpilemaát Siyám (also known as Chief Leanne Joe) of the Squamish Nation

We are honoured to welcome Sxwpilemaát Siyám (Chief Leanne Joe, Squamish Nation) as our guest for a vital conversation about what it takes to enact mindful, ongoing and authentic reconciliation.

Co-author of Step into the River: A Framework for Economic Reconciliation, Sxwpilemaát Siyám is one of sixteen Hereditary Chiefs of the Squamish Nation and the first female Chief of her Lackett Joe Family.

She focuses her work on Economic Reconciliation, rematrician and education, serving as a Trustee for the Squamish Nation Trust, Board member of the New Relationship Trust and the Women in Leadership Foundation and advisory to other committees.

During the conversation, Sxwpilemaát Siyám will share:

  • The findings of the Step into the River report
  • The importance of engaging in economic reconciliation as a practice, not a final product
  • What it takes to build and sustain relationships, building capacity and skills that support Indigenous self-determination
  • How reconciliation becomes a catalyst for positive change in our economy as a whole

Anyone interested in, or currently engaging, in reconciliation, whether economic or otherwise, will come away empowered and inspired to do the work. This discussion will be hosted by Indigenous Prosperity Executive Director Christina Clarke. Register here.
