The Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation (MIRR) 2023/24-2025/26 Service Plan
The Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation (MIRR) 2023/24-2025/26 Service Plan outlines the Province of British Columbia's commitment to achieving true and lasting reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples by implementing the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (Declaration Act) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action. The plan is guided by two main goals: to advance equitable social and economic outcomes for Indigenous Peoples by partnering on initiatives to improve quality of life (such as coordinating Residential School site investigation funding and expanding urban Indigenous supports) and by supporting self-determination through new distinctions-based fiscal and resource revenue-sharing frameworks. The second goal is to work in partnership to achieve reconciliation by implementing the UN Declaration, TRC Calls to Action, and the Tsilhqot'in Supreme Court decision, and by negotiating and implementing long-term treaties and agreements that affirm self-determination. A key component of this effort is the Declaration Act Secretariat, an independent office that coordinates the cross-government work to ensure provincial laws are consistent with the UN Declaration
